Important School Information!
1. Arrival & Dismissal - Our day begins at 7:45. Your child may arrive between 7:15 and 7:45 a.m. Children who are not in the classroom ready to begin the day at 7:45 will be tardy. We will dismiss at 2:15 each day. Children who carpool will leave the classroom, exit through the front doors, and wait for you at their assigned falcon number. Please help your child learn his/her carpool number.
2. Birthdays – Birthdays are special and significant and I appreciate the opportunity to celebrate with your child. Please talk with me ahead of time if you would like to provide a special snack for your child and his/her classmates. All snack items must be store bought and shared during lunch.
3. Communication – You are an important part of your child's education. Communication will take place in a variety of ways: notes, emails, telephone calls, weekly newsletters, Daily Behavior Log, report cards, Monday folders, our class website, and school conferences. Please contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns. You may reach me at school (919-570-2220), send a note in your child's daily folder, or send an email to [email protected]. I will return messages from you as soon as possible, but within 24 hours at the latest.
4. Curriculum - The First Grade Common Core and Essential Standards are posted on our class website. Please take the time to read over the standards so you will be familiar with our focus in each subject area.
5. Early Release – We will have 8 Early Release days this school year. Please review the Track 4 calendar and make note of these days. On early release days, children will be dismissed at 11:45 following normal dismissal procedures. Lunch will be provided on a modified lunch schedule.
6. Falcon Tickets – As part of our school wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support, children may earn Falcon Tickets from staff members for exhibiting S.O.A.R. behaviors – showing self control, operating safely, acting responsibility and respecting themselves and others. Within our classroom children may earn tickets for exhibiting exceptional behavior and character. Tickets may be collected and cashed in at the Falcon Store for “prizes” on Tuesday mornings before the 7:45 bell.
7. Homework – Students will have homework each weeknight. Refer to the weekly newsletters in order to know what the homework is. Assignments will be due by the end of the week. In addition, your child is expected to read for at least 15 minutes each night. There will be a place on the daily behavior log for you to write down how many minutes your child reads.
8. Monday Folders and Daily Folders - Each Monday students will bring home a Monday school folder. This will have important information from the office.. It will also have student work in from the week before. Please be sure to go through this folder each week so you will be up to date.J Also, remove all student work and return the folder.
A blue class folder will be sent home daily. This will include the weekly behavior log. Please review, sign each night, and leave in the folder. This folder will also include any homework papers, as well as any additional classroom information.
9. Newsletters – A Newsletter will be posted on our class website each week and will provide homework for each night, important school and classroom information. Please visit our website consistently and read our Newsletter to stay informed.
10. Report Cards – Your child will receive a Report Card at the end each quarter. Interims and Progress Reports will be sent home at the mid point of each quarter. Interims will be sent home with children working below grade level standards.
11. Snack – Please send in a snack for your child daily. Snacks should be nutritious and easy for your child to open. If your child brings a lunch from home, please make sure he/she knows what is for snack and what is for lunch!
12. Transportation - It is very important that we know how your child will get home each day. If you plan to change your child’s typical method of afternoon transportation, please send in a note with your child. I must have any transportation changes in writing.
13. Volunteers and Visitors – If you would like to volunteer, please register in the computer lab during school hours. Volunteers must be registered and approved in order to work with children in small groups at school and on field trips. Family members are encouraged to visit our school for lunch and special classroom activities throughout the year. Whenever you, or a family member, enter the building please be sure you sign in and receive a Visitor sticker from the front office.
14. Wish List - Our class Wish List is posted on our class website. If you would like to make a contribution please purchase the item and send it to school with your child. Our wish list will be updated as needed on our class website. All contributions will be greatly appreciated.
